MY JOURNEY OF THE BODY

My military career started at 16 when I joined the Royal Parachute regiment. At 21 I attempted SAS selection and went through the hardest thing I had ever done, before being discharged due to bad eye sight. This was not the end but the beginning of an incredible adventure. I left the UK and started my journey to find a new home and settled on New Zealand. It was here that my love of endurance sports was awakened and for the next 18 years I continued to push myself physically and mentally with mountain and road marathons, adventure racing and Iron Man triathlons. I still find solace on my mountain bike finding new places to explore both physically and mentally.

Because of the physical nature of pursuing my disciplines and my pursuit of levelling up at every opportunity I understood the importance of stretching. After doing my first yoga class back in 2000 I realised this was the edge I needed. I completed my yoga teacher training and was exposed to some of the worlds most influential teachers. Learning from these teachers awakened me to exploring not just my body but also my mind.

MY JOURNEY OF THE MIND

I have always been fascinated by the workings of the mind and how the mind plays a vital role in our training, our sport, our careers and our lives. The language we use and the internal dialog plays a huge part in how we show up. The mind is a wild beast and I have been on a journey of learning to understand how it can be tamed and controlled, so ultimately we can master our mind.

I have studied many methods for working with the mind including:

  • Meditation

  • Breathing techniques

  • Shadow work

  • NLP

  • mBraining

  • Performance enhancing techniques

EXPLORATION OF MANHOOD

In 2019 I went in search of answers to some questions I had been pondering for many years.

What does it mean to be a man?

How can I become a better husband?

Why are so many of our young men ending up as statistics?

This led me to seek out an organisation called the Mankind Project, and after completing my training I found the path I needed to walk. A path based on service and helping others to become the best versions of themselves.

The Mankind Project is still a big part of my life and I continue to volunteer and train with them.
